Sam feels grossly underqualified to serve as an elder, but prays this weakness will help her to
serve humbly and reliant on prayer: for “when I am weak, then I am strong” 2 Cor 12:9. Her and
her family were led to Jesus and Cochrane Alliance Church in 2018 after her firstborn Charlotte
attended Backyard Kids Camps. Sam has been married to Matt since 2006, and their
kids are Olivia, Charlotte, and Dylan, who are now teens/preteens. Sam and Matt were baptized
together in the Bow River in 2020, and were led by God to adopt Olivia in 2022. Sam has
served with Children’s Ministry, Youth, Life on the Balcony, 4M’s Arise and Backyard Kids
Camps. She has been a teacher for over 2 decades and taught biology in Calgary high schools
and at SAIT, and now works supporting students with diverse needs in early childhood here in
Cochrane. Sam was born in Calgary but lived overseas as a child in England, Nigeria, Texas
and Saudi Arabia. She loves being out moving in God’s creation with family and friends, and
volunteers as a mountain bike coach with Bike Cochrane. She deeply loves Jesus and her
brothers and sisters at Cochrane Alliance Church, and is thankful for this opportunity to serve
them.
