“For I am the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you” Isaiah 41:13

We are training and supporting volunteer peer mentors to walk alongside persons and families struggling with mental health needs due to or amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cochrane Alliance Church has developed a Community Peer Mentor Program that will train up volunteer Peer Mentors to support and walk beside people who often feel marginalized and are struggling with life’s challenges. The program will train and educate volunteers who would like to be the hands and feet of Christ but may feel inadequately equipped to deal with these challenges.  The Mentees will be recommended from churches, agencies and organizations in Cochrane and area.  Peer Mentors will be matched with Mentees, and both will be monitored, supported, and encouraged as they relate and grow together.  This is an exciting opportunity to reach out, and journey with those who often feel excluded, alone, and rejected by society.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’“ Matthew 25:40

Funding for this project was provided through the Government of Alberta Mental Health and Addiction COVID-19 Community Funding Grant Program. This $25 million program supports community projects and services that enhance COVID-19 mental health and addiction recovery supports and services. The grant program is a part of the more than $53 million committed by Alberta’s government to enhance mental health and addiction supports during and after the pandemic.
