On August 4th, an explosion shook through the city of Beirut, Lebanon. The impact took over 200 lives, injured over 5000 people, and left the bustling city to try to rebuild itself.

For many Lebanese, they have experienced violent explosions in the past and this explosion may have left them feeling hopeless as they begin to process trauma, anger that the explosion could have been prevented, thankfulness that their life was not taken, and as they mourn for their loved ones and city.

With the recent explosion in Beirut, COVID-19 cases continuing to rise, and economies continuing to plummet the need for emergency response projects continues to be great.

The Global Emergency Response Fund (GERF) is a pool of money that is the C&MA uses to support emergency response projects. As more projects are needed, more funding is needed to sustain GERF.

The explosion was approximately five kilometers away from the Karantina Alliance Church and the Alliance Bible School (CAIT – Christian Alliance Institute of Theology). The explosion damaged classrooms, offices, and student dorms, as well as countless other buildings in the area.

As 300,000 people find themselves suddenly homeless, we are working with our partners in local churches to offer aid and support to the people in Beirut as they work towards overcoming this devastation. We are able to do this through your support to the GERF.

The need is urgent. Along with this project, we are participating in an Alliance World Fellowship global initiative that is funding 28 projects in 19 different countries for COVID-19 relief. We need your help to sustain GERF as our funding is running low. In the next few weeks the AWF relief committee will be receiving another round of project proposals for a phase two COVID-19 recovery.

A country in South East Asia has been in lockdown for over four months. We are partnered with local church who has been able to provide grocery kits to families in their community, as well as able to continue providing services online since churches are closed.

In Venezuela we are continuing to respond with AWF’s COVID-19 relief and recovery to combat malnutrition through a food distribution program.
