A Faith Milestones Event

Guiding Questions:

  • Who am I?
  • Whose am I?

Core Competencies:

  • Identity in Christ
  • Interacting with culture
  • Physical/emotional changes

It is so important to help kids prepare spiritually, emotionally, and physically for adolescence. Between the ages of 10 and 12, we begin to introduce these concepts to kids as they attend church ministries and activities. We also want to equip parents to intentionally prepare their children to enter the teen years. This stage of development requires parents to rethink how they connect with their children relationally and lead them spiritually.  Our desire is to come alongside parents to help preteens understand their identity in Christ. We encourage families with children in this age range to attend this seminar.

At this seminar parents of preteens (grade 5-7) will be given information to start to prepare their preteen for transition into adolescence.  This seminar is meant to shine light on this important time of life that we call adolescence.  Preteens will find themselves facing many new pressures from the culture around them.  We want to make parents aware of some of those pressures and educate them on how they can talk to their preteen about them.  More so we want to come alongside parents so that together we can help preteens take a hold of their identity in Christ.  As preteens understand how to answer questions such as “Who am I” and “Whose am I”, parents will better be able to address faith, culture and physical/emotional changes that their preteen will be experiencing.  These faith talks are meant to be a regular part of family life moving forward.  Additionally, parents are given tools and resources as how to strengthen their preteen’s spiritual disciplines of prayer, devotions, etc. to promote spiritual growth.

Sam Seifert, Pastor of Family Ministries at Southview Alliance Church, will lead a discussion and help parents explore walking with preteens through adolescence.

Contact our Pastor of Student Ministries, Jason Dimnik if you have any questions.
